Larry Mallette

Larry is the great-great grandson of Thomas Farrell and Katherine McKenna Farrell, who left Ireland around 1849. Larry began Irish pennywhistle in 1990 and added Irish flute in 1994. He also performs with his wife, well known harpist Therese Honey, as GoldRing. Larry has performed at the Carolan Festival in Keadue, Co. Roscommon, the Milwaukee Irish Festival, the Mississippi Celtic Festival, and the Houston International Festival. He has taught whistle workshops at the North Texas Irish Festival, the Mississippi Celtic Festival and Houston’s Summer Acoustic Music Festival. In 1998 Larry released ‘Til Time Is No More, a CD of original and traditional tunes that features several of Houston’s top traditional players. In 2012 he released A Stroll in the Park, a solo flute album of original and traditional tunes.

Larry is co-director of the Houston School of Irish Music, a non-profit school for young musicians. The school is sponsored by the William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies of Houston’s University of St. Thomas.
